Mr. Wild Nature pays homage to its name and builds an incredible mountain home, with sweeping views of golden sunsets and growing trees.
His project, however, goes far beyond a house. It is a call for sustainability, installing a renewable energy source and using zero-kilometer materials. With this approach, he manages to create a safe and warm building, with personal touches and highly prepared to withstand the weather conditions of the area.
If you haven't yet felt like watching the video, we'll just say one thing: he has a dog.

I kept waiting for any sign of insulation, nothing. Also for all the hard work and craftsmanship of the house putting wood posts, especially untreated, into the dirt means it's going to rot and have major repairs needed unnecessarily. Concrete piers to get the wood out of the dirt would have been so much better.

A Looks like concrete was poured around the wood posts. This causes buried posts to rot faster. Also laquer for the exterior is a very bad choice. Very artistic but not a durable and warm cabin

@karlwithak. Agreed. Strictly speaking, insulation serves to keep the inner environment as much isolated as possible from outdoor's conditions. Keep the house coolness in summer and prevent heat from leaking in cold seasons while preventing alternately both heat and cold to slip in.

I waited all the video to see where the insulation would be added, and questioned the technique used to weather seal, driving rain would be a problem, maybe I missed something. The wood stove keeps it warm when lit, but any kind of storm/wind would strip the heat away. Great summer house, great to see the pallet recycling.

There’s a big difference between the high quality techniques being described and the low quality of the install. None of the wood was pretreated, and much of it looked like dead-fall was being used. There’s going to be water infiltration problems feeding the existing mold. In about ten years he’s going to be kicking himself over the rot in his piers. Should have used sono-tubes and brought the concrete up to at least six inches above ground level. Nothing seems pre-cut either. His fall risk is huge and how close are the nearest responders? Sorry, I’m applying commercial methods to a DYI project, but a little consulting would result in this house still standing in 300 years, not just 30.

Exposed and untreated wood will deteriorate in time. Treated and untreated wood in the ground will deteriorate much faster than untreated exposed wood above ground. Moisture and freezing conditions will further damage wood in the ground above the freeze line, especially at and near the surface of the ground. The structural support of this or any house or building constructed in this manner will eventually and sooner than "hoped for" will cause it to be declared unsafe for occupation. Too bad because the structure above ground is beautiful. The foundation is a DIY mistake. I hope this person learns from this information for any future projects should he pursue them because I would like to see more of his workmanship.

The extra time you spent adding the extra decoration was worth it to me as it separates your cabin from a lot we see where they don’t bother to build any decoration into the cabin. The wood fireplace looks big enough to really warm up the place which is good considering you didn’t put any insulation in the walls, ceiling or floors! You picked a property with a killer view! love it, beautiful work. the turbine is cute, roof will last but not as long as you think it will, the condensation that will build up behind the metal will damage the exposed wood. it needs to have a full membrane cover not just the edge. love the whole build super cozy and cute.

I thought the same thing .fasten them on top of the concrete , preferably with stainless bolts , but not in , they are the most crucial for keeping the whole building supported . You can save money on a lot , but that , the least you can do is treat them with carboline , and that is even not enough on the long haul …

I'm surprised he's not using a vapor barrier under the tin roof. It looked like he laid a row of it in the lower 3 or 4 feet. The fact that moisture and water drainage was mentioned several times a long with the terrain is think it's prob a damp environment moist of the year.(see what I did there?) Barrier or not, I love the entire building process. Old school meets new er school. The short planks surprised me. I expected CDX. Id be proud to swing a hammer with this guy any day. No that's not a pick up line. I learned building from my gran dad. He hand cut. Hand hewn. Manual augered his joints and pegged the postsband beams. Fire treated and or creasote treated the wood. I know he built a house by hand in the early 1900s in lake worth Texas. He raised 6 kids in. At some point he added a wooden floor. In the 50s they moved to a brick house. The old place stayed empty.id take him back to the old house once in a while. He'd disappear for mins or hours and would reappear with mason jars full of silver dollars he'd buried decades before. The man was in his late 80s and 90s and would joke about being curious if he'd remember where he'd put those over the years. He never even cared that they were silver silver dollars. Many he'd carried in his pockets so long they were perfectly smooth. In the mid 1990s I saw a group of people gathering around the house. I was curious so I stopped to ask what's going on. They were going to tear the house down. I saw hand tools. No big stuff. I laughed and said I think you're gonna find out quickly your crew is gonna be here a long time. You'd better find a D9 or at least a bobcat and some big chop saws. The response was met with laughter. Days later I stopped again to admire grans work. The guy I'd spoken to met me at the truck and wasn't laughing. He said they'd been going at it non stop and barely made a dent. I got to laugh in his face that time. He wanted to know more about gran and was he a builder. I said nope. He was an Indian and knew how to survive. Work smarter not harder is what he told me my whole life. I added that in 54 he built a tin shed in the back yard where he was still living. He cut the trees from the old property. Used nothing but the same tools. And still has a dirt floor and has never leaked a drop of water. Has never been recovered or had the metal replaced. Keeps his plants in it in the winter and they've never frozen. I ended the conversation with did gran win this battle? Or are you gonna cheat and get a bulldozer? The guy admitted defeat and said it makes him sick to have to tear down something like that. I was fortunate to get to spent half of my life with WT. (Grandad) He died in his late 90s. He still had all of his wit and wisdom though he spent the better part of the last 20 years mostly blind. That was the hard part. Watching a man well into his late 70s early 80s realize he can't climb 30' up in the trees to cut limbs or save trees that had been hit by lightening. The neighbors had to learn to mow their own yards and take care of the jungle like landscaping he'd been doing at their homes for decades. To see a man just sit and listen to the world around him change and not be able to take part would drive most people insane. I feel lucky to know he was at peace with it. He would get bored Im sure but it rarely showed. He was a very special man. I feel strongly that everyone who ever met him feels the same way. Didn't matter if it was 5 mins or 50 years. He made an impression on you. I've never heard a single person ever say a single negative thing about gran. There was a huge turn out at his funeral. Id never seen 90% of the people before. There wasn't a dry eye when we put him in the ground. I wonder how many of us will have that kind of effect when we're gone? Oh I know I won't. The only people that will show up at my funeral will be there just to make sure I'm really dead.
