My grandparents emigrated to North Dakota from Russia and lived in a sod shanty for a few years. They got rid of that and built a proper timber house as soon as they could. They realized there is nothing noble about living in a dirty primitive shanty and would be the last to ever refer to this chapter in their lives as sustainable. A shack is a shack.
