If you can see the middle knife the fighter bowie in my profile pic I made that handle from a block of ancient bog oak. )) Nice stuff. Feels very nice in my hand to grip and everything and I love the deep rich black colour. It's almost like transluscent like you can see deep into it. Nice to work with too. Only problem it's a little soft so it'll get dints and scratches in it pretty easily but no bug deal.

Quite amazing, thank you. I'm lucky enough to have some swamp Kauri which is approx 25'000 years old. Compared to this bog oak it looks freshly felled but that's deceiving. Put a chainsaw through it and you get the occasional spark and a very dull chain, lol.

Drying out Bog Oak is the most important element of preparing this log. For more information try Adamson & Low (UK cabinet makers) They use this timber and it them took some years before they mastered the art of drying. Hamish is a brilliant cabinetmaker with an amazing CV. I am certain he would give good advice.

Да, возможно я чего-то не понимаю, но скажите, если кушать со стола из мареного дуба, еда будет вкуснее? Или такой стол будет как скатерть самобранка? Дверь из такой древесины будет теплее и прочнее? Some smaller corrections: "real" bog wood comes from high altitude bogs, situated so it does not have contact with ground water! The only water the bogs receive comes from rain, creating a very acid heavy water condition - the same tannic situation you have when preparing leather. These bogs are exclusive to Northern Europe. Sincerely, the Historian

"STOP THE CHAINSAW!" Safety does matter.. Sad to see people who work with chainsaws for a living NOT know what they are doing. First, you never start a chainsaw that way. Always hold the chainsaw with trigger firmly between your knees or step on it while on the ground then pull the cord. Second, it's ok to saw a log that is only supported on the ends if done correctly. Which is to cut down from top about a third of the way. Remove saw and put a wedge in cut. Then start cutting from the bottom and saw nonstop until you reach the top cut at which time the log will split without getting saw blade pinched.

You start on the underside of a floating log, and cut a wedge. That way the top cut doesn’t bite.

@@chadachwilliam5515 in case like on the video you have to start from the top and finish from the bottom. Whatewer. My point is - it's a common thing to cut a floatin log, right?

@@maxtsaruk yeah, I cut stuff in all different positions. When your in the bush you got to cut it where it falls, and sometimes you got to be a squirrel.

I'm just gonna say it ..these guys do not know how to saw ...they're a terrible terrible accident waiting to happen. I wish them the best but I wish someone would come show them how to cut logs before they end up in the hospital or dead.

Unless these guys are gnomes, I think that tree was WAY longer then seven meters before they started cutting it up. As for all the negative comments, this tree fell into a bog a long time ago, and somebody found it and dug it out. This tree was NOT cut down in the present. So, slow your roll, haters! All that being said, can I have the stump?!

that wood dust cant be used in anyway? I'd think at this rarity and cost, you'd utilize every tiny bit of it, including the dust.
