Never attach a deck directly to your house. In about 15 years the framing behind your siding will be rotting from water seeping through the wood and bolt holes and screw holes. I go back to lot of homes years later to repair leaks and rott

What’s the solution? Free standing? I have a high standing deck and the joists are bolted to the side of the house

@@commercialconcepts2198 yeah it's best to set post in back and make freestanding deck. I've seen people attach them trying to use flashing and silicone on bolts but I've seen nothing work. Only if bolted to brick house will it last

I never liked the idea and I was just a fashion Lady. But when you tell your contractor (or anyone) you encounter huge resistance. They say it’s double the posts. (The posts are the part no one wants to do. Especially if you’re digging them down and cementing them like in old days.)

Make sure you space your decking, use a nail or something to keep the space uniform, as this will help keep water draining through...never place the decking tight to one another or you are sure to get water damage sooner...than later...this is especially important if water comes off the roof onto your deck, (under the eaves), not as much if on a gable end..but still a good idea.

You should never gab treated wood. After first season it will shrink and gap itself. After couple years on wood decks people gap spaced, they wind up with 3/8 gaps or more

Great stuff! As for the deck being attached to the house, I personally saw my dad build an amazing two story redwood deck along the whole length of our house in Oak Ridge TN- it will outlast all of us!

The stencil-made designs on the sidewalk are pretty but you should clean it all off because that stuff is slippery when it rains or has dew on it!

I've done accent walls, and the one in this video would be a nightmare. A very difficult DIY project. Other patterns would be way more DIY friendly.

I agree, video is too fast. Here is a remedy. At the top right corner of the screen you'll see this symbol ⚙. Tap that scroll down to adjust speed, slow down the speed of the video to what is comfortable for you. Then, you may want to turn the volume all the way down because it slows down the volume as well and making it slower and since the music will be distorted just cutting it all the way off. I'm not fast at reading captions as it is. And with so much great information in this video, this is a game changer so now you can study everything taking in all the details.

Very few of these are new ideas, mostly just recycled from the past viewed by a new audience. The self hanging shelves I have been using since the early 80’s. They even go back to the 19th century when real woodworking carpenters built them in their homes.
